While Ayurvedically speaking sweet tastes are not the most ideal for indulging in during the spring months, spring berries with just a hint of sweetness are a great alternative to traditional sweets like pastries, cakes, pies, etc. Pairing this chutney with green apples makes for a great addition to any meal to satisfy the desire for a sweeter flavor craving.
I’ve made this several times already during this spring season, and it has yet to disappoint. Give it a try as an addition to any meal, whether it‘s breakfast, lunch, or dinner when you’re looking to add a healthy sweet treat to the menu.
Quick to make, this chutney paired with sauteed green apples topped with lemon juice and cinnamon will satisfy any sweet cravings!
Sweet Raspberry Chutney with Green Apples
To make 4 servings of the chutney, you’ll need the following:
2 cups spring raspberries
4-6 Tbsp golden raisins (soaked for 10 minutes in enough fruit juice just to cover them), you can substitute regular raisins for the golden raisins. I’ve made it both ways and either way tastes great. Test with adding only 4 Tbsp raisins first and if you want it sweeter, you can add more.
1 Tsp ground ginger
1 Tsp ground cinnamon
4 green apples
1-2 Tsp coconut oil
1 whole fresh lemon (juiced)
sprinkled cinnamon for the top of the apples
In a blender, add the soaked raisins, raspberries, ginger, and cinnamon and purée.
Wash and thinly slice the green apples lengthwise.
Warm the coconut oil on medium heat in a frying pan.
Spread the oil in the pan and add the apples. In the meantime, juice the lemon and pour the juice over the apples, and sprinkle cinnamon on top.
Keeping an eye on the apples, turn several times until they are slightly browned on the sides.
Serve the apples warm with a side of the Raspberry Chutney.
